Whether you live in a house, apartment, condo, or even a cabin, bothersome pests such as mice, roaches, spiders, ants, and other vermin are always a threat to invade your home. Even the cleanest and most well-kept homes are never immune to pests.
The infestations can start off small enough, but you can have a very serious problem in a relatively short amount of time. Pest control is your only real option when it comes to getting these undesirable creatures out of your home, but what exactly is the best pest control method?
Different pests usually require different approaches. You may discover you have a mice problem, only to have that taken care of and followed by ants all over your windowsill and kitchen counters. It can be impossible to keep up if you are one of the unlucky homes dealing with multiple issues.
Home pest control is a very big industry, and there are no shortages of guys in work suits who can come and hose your home down in toxins to attempt to eradicate the threat. But is this really the best way to go about things? Before we get to that, let’s look at some of the more popular and common options for pest control.
When It comes to traditional pest control methods, there are four distinct choices that are carried out all over the country every day.
This is probably the first thing that comes to mind when you hear someone say “pest control.” Giant spray bottles or backpacks full of some of the most poisonous substances on earth.
When you call someone to come spray for pest at your home, you get a pest control employee who comes over and tries to identify where the source of the problem is. The pest control employee then sprays this poison liquid around the source, and sometimes follows that with spraying along all of your baseboards, crawl spaces, crevices, etc.
Covering surfaces with toxic spray might seem like an effective solution, and it certainly can be. However, if you have pets or children, this can be a big concern. Sure, the spray eventually dries, but it’s still there. Do you really want your kids and pets around this? What about in the air inside your home?
This doesn’t sound very appealing, even if it can be effective.
Various traps are used in several different ways for pest control. Ant traps and various bug traps can be laid around the home in problem areas, luring them into to either a stick surface, or poison. Either the bugs get stuck and die, or eat poison and die.
When it comes to mice, there are quite a few options. You have the standard mouse trap that you might remember seeing in cartoons growing up, for instance. These traps are rather brutal, and are designed to snap and break the head or neck of the mouse.
Sticky traps provide a more humane option, but they can be traumatizing for the mouse when trying to loosen it. If the mouse does survive unscathed and gets taken to a remote location, it’ll likely be back. Besides, where there’s one mouse, there’s often dozens more.
This is another outdated and primitive method. Poison bait can be dispersed all throughout the home, luring bugs and mice to feed off of them while even taking some back for the kids. Again, poison can be effective, but it’s not very ideal when you have curious pets and children in the home.
It’s also worth mentioning that using mice poison in the home can sometimes result in finding more than just a few dead mice spread throughout the home. Not a pleasant situation in the least.
This might be the most drastic of them all. When infestations become widespread. It can be close to impossible to put out enough poison or traps to get rid of the problem. When this happens, many pest control companies recommended fumigating the house with poison gas.
If that sounds a little bit crazy, it’s because it is. You have to vacate your home, covers valuables, decor, and whatever else, and lie in wait elsewhere while your house becomes filled with poison gas. Fumigation can kill a good portion of the pests in your home, but sometimes not even this is enough.
You’re left with a temporarily toxic home, a big bill, and possible pests still lingering.
There are several reasons why these more common pest control methods are not very idea.
First of all, they are expensive. Spraying, fumigation, multiple traps, it adds up very fast. Multiple treatments on a home can drain your bank account, and multiple treatments are almost always needed.
These methods often pose danger to you and your family as well. No matter how you try to spin it, there is poison in multiple locations in your house.
None of these methods deal with the root cause of the problem, which is the actual issue of the pests coming into your home in the first place. Pest control is almost always a reactionary solution that works to plug the hole in the boat, only to have another one spring up elsewhere.
GreenGuard addresses all of the issues that plague common pest control methods, while also offering a few benefits you won’t find with these methods.
