Are you afraid of spiders? If you are, you’re not alone. Lots of people are afraid of spiders. Maybe it’s just because they look scary. But, for all their creepy crawly characteristics, spiders do more good than you may think.
For one thing, they eat pesky pests like flies and mosquitoes, crickets and moths. That’s a good thing. And most spiders are harmless to humans. There are thousands of species but only a few types of spiders are dangerous to humans.
That doesn’t change the fact that most of us cringe at the site of a spider. And some people are out-of-their-minds panicked if they see a spider. These people suffer from arachnophobia. The word sounds serious, but it is one of the most common phobias – or fears – in our culture. People with severe arachnophobia can experience symptoms ranging from a rapid heart rate to nausea to a full-blown panic attack. Not fun.
Regardless of our fear of spiders, we need these creepy creatures. They are natural pest exterminators. We just may not want them crawling around in our homes – or on us.
So what’s a good way to get rid of spiders besides stepping on them?
A better solution, believe it or not, is to not kill spiders at all. Or even their food sources – the other creepy crawly pests that invade our homes and harm our health.
